When we think of the top modern day gospel artists that have helped to shape and develop today's gospel music and broaden the acceptance of gospel music, we natrually think of Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, J. Moss or Tonex. To these innovator's credit arises a new and fresh sound to gospel music today and one of few, in the male category, to desmonstrate his ability by transcending musical genres. To say that A'lamur's vocal prowess and originality in the gospel arena is unique definitely underestimates the truly versatile artist at best. A'lamur is a multi-talented and dynamic musician, writer, arranger, director, producer, performer of gospel, jazz, rhythm and blues and even classical music.
A'lamur was born the third of three sons to George and Rosalyn Murray, in Des Moines, IA. He began singing at the age of two with his first appearance being a impromptu performance at an evening church service, of which his father pastored, with his brothers. Additionally, the family would move onto Wichita Kansas and latter Ocala, Florida where he would participate in the children’s choir. His talent for playing the piano would begin here at the age of four, and by the time he was six, was performing semi-professionally with his two older brothers. As a young boy, his faith in God and his musical ability were the perfect combination to prepare him for his calling. He studied piano and voice for many years and he later received a A.S degree in Music.
A'lamur has performed before such national artists as Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, O'landa Draper, Steve Harvey, Philip Michael Thomas, Little Richard, the late Rev. James Moore, and Donald Lawrence just to name a few. He recently released his first solo CD entitled, My Life, Your Words. This debut is sure to create a buzz as the debut combines the richeness of Jazz, the deepness of R&B,the history of traditional gospel, and the fresheness of hip-hop, to create a compilation of compelling and soul-stirring captativation.
While A'lamur is widely recognized, and has many accomplishments to his credit, it is his ability to touch the lives of many through his music ministry, while helping as many as he can to achieve their dreams that is his greatest joy.
